Reservation & Relaxation Policy

CIL follows the reservation policy as per Government of India guidelines:

Category-Wise Reservation

  • SC – 15% of vacancies
  • ST – 7.5% of vacancies
  • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) – 27% of vacancies
  • EWS – 10% of vacancies
  • PwBD – Horizontal reservation (minimum 40% disability required)

EWS Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for EWS reservation, the candidate's family must meet ALL of the following:

  • Gross annual income below ₹8,00,000 (for FY 2025-26) from all sources
  • Should NOT own 5 acres or more of agricultural land
  • Should NOT own a residential flat of 1,000 sq. ft. or above
  • Should NOT own a residential plot of 100 sq. yards or above in notified municipalities

  • Only OBC candidates belonging to the Non-Creamy Layer are eligible for reservation

Service Agreement Bond

No. A candidate can apply for only one discipline. If multiple applications are submitted, only the one with the higher Application Sequence Number will be considered.

Q5. I have a CGPA, not percentage. What should I do?

Upload a CGPA to percentage conversion certificate issued by your University/Institute. If the conversion formula is available on the marksheet itself, upload that marksheet in place of the conversion certificate.

Q6. Is it mandatory to upload self-attested copies?

Yes. All uploaded documents must be self-attested. Take photocopies of originals, sign on them, and scan for upload.

Q7. How will I receive my Admit Card?

The Admit Card can be downloaded from your individual login portal. A link will also be sent to your registered email. Bring a printout along with a valid government photo ID proof (original) to the exam center.

Q8. Is there negative marking in the CBT?

No. There is no penalty for wrong answers. Each correct answer carries 1 mark, and unattempted questions receive 0 marks. So, attempt all questions!

Q9. My father/mother works in CIL. Can I apply as a departmental candidate?

No. Only regular employees of CIL or its subsidiaries can apply as departmental candidates.

Q10. Will CIL refund the application fee if my candidature is rejected?

No. The application fee once deposited is non-refundable under any circumstances.

Q11. I'm working in a PSU but my NOC is under process. What should I do?

You can attach a receipted copy of the NOC application submitted to your employer during the online application. Alternatively, the NOC can be submitted at the time of Document Verification (DV) / Initial Medical Examination (IME), or you can provide a proper relieving order at the time of joining.
